Public Service Broadcasting

Performing Every Valley

alongside NASUWT Riverside Band

Durham Cathedral

Album cover for Public Service Broadcasting's Every Valley.

Headlining the festival’s opening night, Public Service Broadcasting perform their renowned 2017 album Every Valley at the iconic Durham Cathedral.

A stirring work which tells the story of the decline of the Welsh coalmines, the band’s evocative use of archive interviews and music in Every Valley explores how the collapse of mining impacted on local communities.

Performing the album in full for the first time, during the 40th anniversary of the miners’ strikes, Every Valley featured guest vocalists including the Manic Street Preachers’ James Dean Bradfield, Camera Obscura’s Tracyanne Campbell and a 12-piece brass band inspired by the coal mining theme of the album.

Public Service Broadcasting will perform alongside Chester-le-Street’s NASUWT Riverside Band who have played with Richard Hawley and Field Music in previous Durham Brass Festivals, helping to adapt their songs to the unique arrangements required for a brass band performance.

This event is sold out.
