Durham Brass Festival was inspired by one of the largest gatherings of traditional brass bands in the world.
On Saturday 13 July, the 138th Durham Miners’ Gala will bring over 200,000 people to the streets of the City to enjoy the sights and sounds of The Big Meeting. Organised by our friends at the Durham Miners’ Association, the Gala showcases beautiful banners celebrating the region’s working class history as they are carried through the medieval city. Brass bands parade alongside the banners, their route taking them past the County Hotel on Old Elvet, where they pause perform their “party piece” before heading to the Old Racecourse for the Big Meeting at 1pm.
Loud Noises will represent the Brass Festival at this year’s event. They’ll parade with Equity, the performing arts and entertainment trade union, ahead of a pop-up performance on the show field at the Old Racecourse.
