How to get to Durham
Durham can be reached by an excellent road network. The A1/A1(M) motorway provides easy access from both the north and south. Come off it at junction 62 and follow the A690 into the city centre. If you are coming from the north, Durham can also be accessed via the A68 and A691 – just follow the signs to the city centre.
There are various car parks in walking distance from Durham city centre.
- Walkergate multi-storey car park (DH1 1SQ) and Prince Bishops multi-storey car park (DH1 3UJ) are both located centrally.
There are regular bus services to the city centre from surrounding areas. You can use Traveline North East to help you plan your journey.
Durham city centre is a 10 minute walk from Durham train station, which has regular train services from both the north and south on the East Coast mainline. From the station, follow signs for the city centre.
How to get to Durham Cathedral
The address is: Durham Cathedral, Durham, DH1 3EH.
The cathedral is a 20 minute walk from Durham train station, or a five minute walk from Durham market place. From Durham market place, walk up Saddler Street. At the top of the hill, where the road forks, turn right into Owengate and continue up the hill. Durham Cathedral is directly in front of you.
How to get to The Pitman’s Parliament, Redhills
The address is: Redhills: Durham Miners Hall, Flass Street, Durham, DH1 4BE.
The Pitman’s Parliament is a three minute walk from Durham train station, or a 15 minute walk from Durham market place. From Durham market place, walk down Silver Street, then down North Road. Cross the main North Road roundabout, and walk under the viaduct. Turn immediately left onto Sutton Street and continue straight ahead, up the hill on Flass Street. Redhills is immediately in on your right.
How to get to the BRASS Outdoor Stage
Our outdoor stage is based on Durham Racecourse ground on the banks of the river at DH1 3JU.
This is a 10 minute walk from Durham market place. From Durham market place, walk onto Saddler Street. Where the street forks, continue left down the hill and onto Elvet Bridge. Cross the bridge and continue straight ahead onto Old Elvet. Where the road forks, take continue left onto Green Lane. You will see the festival arena in front of you.
