Durham Miners’ Association Brass Band was formed in September 2009 by the merger of two local bands, Hetton Silver Band (est 1887) and Broughton’s Brass (Est 1971).
In recent years the band has taken part in band tours to France, Belgium and Germany, played at Notting Hill Carnival, performed alongside Cory Band in last year’s Brass Festival and takes part regularly in the Hartlepool Folk Festival. At this year’s Brass Festival the band will be performing with Barry Hyde, the lead singer of the Future Heads in some new arrangements of songs from his latest album – Miners Ballads.
The last few years have also brought contest success with the band qualifying for the National Finals 3 years out of 4. This success has meant the band competed for this first time in the 1st Section after being promoted and their trombone section won the prize for the “Best Trombones” in the North of England Brass Band Championship in March 2025.
Durham Miners’ Association Brass Band will be performing as part of the Sound of Sunday care home programme.
